Save the Lungs of Wakefield: Wildlife before warehouses

Save the Lungs of Wakefield: Wildlife before warehouses
The Issue
AAA Property Group propose building a manufacturing hub, and up to 100 houses on the farm land adjacent to Junction 39 of M1 and A636, Denby Dale Road. We, the people of Wakefield, strongly object to these proposals due to the impact on the community, local services and the environment.
Should this development go ahead, pollution levels, which are already above acceptable limits, will be considerably increased. This will have obvious detrimental effects on the health of the community, and impact on the environment.
The traffic on Denby Dale Road, which passes through the village of Calder Grove, would be increased dramatically. This already impacts the surrounding areas, from Durkar to Sandal; Horbury Junction to Crigglestone; Great Cliff to Kettlethorpe.
All those extra cars and lorries will bleed into residential areas, bringing with them pollution, unreasonable noise and excessive disruption to existing road and community infrastructure.
Clearly there will be a major impact on schools, doctors, hospitals and dentists. All of these services are already overstretched.
Several official organisations, including the Canal and River Trust and Highways England, have responded to the original proposal: this is not supported.
The Canal and River Trust states that the area is not flat and that “a reasonable risk of landslip towards the north” is likely to occur. Any buildings on this land would therefore be potentially unstable.
The action group set up to fight this, and hold Wakefield Council to account, is called Broad Cut Against Development, or BAD. This is the focus, but obviously includes the wider community.
Why BAD? – Because this development is BAD for Wakefield.
It’s BAD for our biodiversity.
It’s BAD for our natural environment.
It’s BAD for our health and well-being.
It’s BAD for road safety, with risk to life.
Help us fight this by signing the petition so that between us we can STOP the urbanisation of rural Wakefield.
