Thanks to the community's letters, emails, and phone calls, the Department of Main Roads and Transport has delayed the removal of the Lewington Road Eucalypt Trees on Mount Mee by one week. It appears they need next week to respond to the community's correspondence, and will fire up the chainsaw the week after. I've updated the countdown here. This buys us more time to uncover the information we seek, share the story widely, and grow support to save these beautiful trees and the native wildlife that depend on them.

We heard about the delay, thanks to a passionate community member who went to the TMR office in Maroochydore, and waited until somebody would speak to them. Another dedicated community member visited the City Of Moreton Bay Office, requesting details of the scheduled works and the associated Environmental Management Plan under the Right To Information Act.

At the same time, we've been contacting the Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Brent Mickelberg MP, as well as the Shadow Minister for the Environment, Leanne Linard MP, and the Federal Minister for the Environment and Water, Murray Watt MP. We're hoping that soon we will find an Environment Minister who will stand with us to protect the environment.

While Andrew Powell has been unable to schedule a meeting specifically about this issue with concerned locals, his drop-in mobile office will visit Mount Mee Public Hall at 1:30pm tomorrow. We have a lot of questions, and we'll mention that our petition now has over 700 signatures.

If you would like to connect with others who believe in this cause, and stay across the latest updates, please join the Save the Lewington/Mount Mee Road Trees Facebook Group. There, you can also see videos of the flocks of Rainbow Lorikeets popping out of the old hollows of these cherished trees.
