SAVE THE LEGENDARY BUILDINGS OF THE HEIGHTS FROM COLLAPSING
THIS PETITION WAS SPECIFICALLY CREATED TO BRING AWARENESS TO THE DANGEROUS LIVING CONDITIONS IN A 32-FLOOR HIGH-RISE RESIDENTIAL BUILDING IN WASHINGTON HEIGHTS BUILT RIGHT ABOVE THE TRANS-MANHATTAN EXPRESSWAY, RIGHT OFF THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE.
"The Bridge Apartments comprise four high-rise buildings, each 32 stories high and containing 240 apartments, for a total of 960 units in the entire complex. The second floor has laundry and community rooms; the lowest floor of residences is the third. The water and heating systems for the buildings are located below the ground floor.
The buildings are between 178th and 179th Streets on Audubon Avenue, St. Nicholas Avenue, and Wadsworth Avenue, in the neighborhood of Washington Heights in the New York City borough of Manhattan. They are built directly above the 12-lane[2] Trans-Manhattan Expressway on its approach to the George Washington Bridge, on top of four concrete platforms that serve as the buildings' foundations.[1] The spaces between the buildings above the expressway were left open for ventilation, as it would have been prohibitively costly to seal the highway completely and ventilate it through ducts running to the roofs of the buildings.
***As of 2004, the apartments housed 4,000 people, the majority of whom were working-class. Residents continued to complain of air and noise pollution, although the buildings remained popular.[1] They were reported to be in a deteriorated state."

On May 2nd, 2022, Jeff Sellars shared the following "Structural integrity compromised? Cross Bronx Expressway, any of you ever noticed this? Just before the George Washington Bridge, there is a 40 story building thats built over the roadway. Well over 50% of the main supporting Pillars are collapsing under pressure. Just recently the city decided to put plastic covers around the worst piers so that motorists wouldn't notice how bad the situation really is.
How could it be allowed to get this bad? Ive been watching these pillars come apart for the past few years. A little worse each time I drive through there. I no longer feel safe driving under that collapsing structure, and to think, the building is filled with thousands of unknowing, innocent people." Jeff Sellars
Please help us get attention from the city to fix these scary and dangerous issues that can cause the building to collapse. There are over 4,000 people living in this building including babies, our grandparents, our parents, etc. that have nowhere else to go but their homes.
We are at risk of losing it all. Sign and Share.
