Save The Khoisan People From Extinction! Urgent Action & Support Is Paramount!
The Issue
The Khoisan people of South Africa are indigenous hunter-gatherer communities that have historically faced discrimination, marginalization, and displacement. They were dispossessed from their traditional land during the colonial era and forced into remote areas, resulting in cultural erosion, poverty, and socio-economic challenges.
In recent years, the Khoisan have organized to raise awareness about their struggles, fight for their rights, and demand legal recognition of their indigenous status. They have also been fighting against the mining and development projects that threaten their ancestral lands and livelihoods.
Now only an estimate of 100 000 Khoisan people remain in South Africa and their population has dwindled due to various negative effects that still affect the Khoisan people till this very day. We are afraid that without urgent measures the Khoisan people will soon be eradicated from the existence of the world and most importantly their fecund history.
Additionally, the Khoisan people have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic due to their lack of access to basic health care and limited economic opportunities. Overall, the Khoisan people continue to experience various forms of social, economic, and political marginalization in South Africa.
Therefore we call South Africans who call South Africa their home to sign this petition in order to raise awareness and help our Khoisan people to regain their ancestral lands and be legally recognised for their indigenous status and not as “Coloured” people as per classification race of the apartheid regime.
To us their struggles may seem insignificant but to them these struggles affect and will continue to affect their lineage and generations of knowledge!
