The Issue

The City of Kingman has voted to eliminate the KART Yellow Route serving New Kingman-Butler, Birdland, and surrounding communities. For many residents, this is not simply a bus route—it is their only connection to medical appointments, mental health services, employment, grocery stores, schools, recovery programs, and essential services.

The Yellow Route serves some of the most transportation-dependent residents in our region ,according to the “KART short and long term plan” which you can find on the City of Kingman website; including:
• Seniors
• Veterans
• Individuals with disabilities

Imagine being a senior, relying on this transportation to get to your medical appointments, or a veteran using it to commute to your veteran-related support services. For students who rely on the bus to get to school, this route is a bridge to their future, and for workers, it is the lifeline connecting them to their livelihoods. Many residents in the areas affected do not own vehicles and have no alternative means of transportation. Eliminating this service would isolate them from the essential facets of life that so many of us take for granted.

The elimination of this route is not just a matter of inconvenience but a concerning threat to the welfare and independence of many. The city needs a transportation system that supports all its citizens, particularly the vulnerable ones who depend on it the most. Stories of many riders include: A lady who takes the yellow route to Dialysis three days a week. Other riders include those who have been blind since birth and unable to drive, stroke victims who have lost mobility. The list extends beyond what I can provide in words.

Instead of eliminating this critical service, I urge the City of Kingman to work collaboratively with community members, stakeholders, transit professionals, ADOT, and federal partners to identify solutions that preserve the Yellow Route. The City has already accepted federal and state transit funding intended to support public transportation services and mobility for residents. Before reducing service to some of the community’s most transit-dependent populations, every effort should be made to maximize existing funding opportunities, maintain compliance with grant commitments, and explore alternatives that protect access to transportation for those who rely on it every day.

It is crucial to value public transportation as a vital community service, ensuring accessibility, independence, and equality for all residents. Saving the KART Yellow Route can genuinely make a difference in many lives and help uphold the community's principles of inclusivity and care.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for the continuation of the KART Yellow Route and supporting thousands of individuals in preserving their connection to the community and access to essential services. Let's stand together to demand that our city's transportation policies reflect the needs and values of all its residents. Please sign this petition to protect a vital service that keeps our community moving.
