Save the Interactive Resource Center

The Issue

On July 16th, Greensboro City Council members held a council meeting to discuss cutting funding/closing the IRC.

The Interactive Resource Center is a vital resource for community members in Greensboro North Carolina. The IRC was originally created to be a beacon of resources in the community where people could come to get showers, wash their clothes, receive case management assistance, medical care, housing aid, psychiatry care, etc. Due to the drastic increase in the unhoused population in the last 2 years, the IRC has opened its doors 24/7 to try and assist with the amount of people who are sleeping on the streets. On any given day there are upwards of 100 people who are sleeping on the floor of the IRC every night.

If the IRC closes its doors, with NO other shelters in the area or housing resources accepting people, hundreds of people will be stranded with no shelter, food, or water. Hundreds of mentally ill, disabled, financially struggling individuals will have nowhere to go and nowhere to seek resources. This will leave hundreds of community members with nothing. People will be unmedicated, malnourished, and in dangerous levels of heat.

Now is the time to act. We must demand Greensboro City Council members and Mayor Nancy Vaughan to continue to fund the IRC and continue to assist in supporting its marginalized community members. Without the IRC, the unhoused community population will continue to rise, crime in the area will again begin to skyrocket, and most importantly people will die.

Please sign and also consider writing to Greensboro officials to let them know how immoral and negligent this decision is. Demand city council members allocate resources and funding back to the IRC and its community.
