Save the iconic Old Trafford & stop Manchester United from building a new stadium.
The Issue
This is a petition to ask Sir Jim Ratcliffe to please reconsider his proposal of leaving Old Trafford in favour of building a new 100,000 seater stadium.
I understand that the proposal would take six years to construct & I can also see how it would logistically be much easier to build a stadium as you would want it from scratch rather than to try to repair & renovate the current ground but as a Manchester United fan, for me a move from Old Trafford is unfathomable, even if it is only next door.
I have been a fan from birth since 1992 & have been fortunate enough to attend near 150 games so far in my life, my first being in 1996 & I have kept every single match-day programme.
I fell in love with Old Trafford from my very first visit & I still get emotional every time I walk out towards my seat.
I speak for myself & probably many other fans in saying that I am very grateful for the impact that Sir Jim has already made on our club. - Strong appointments have been made & it’s a relief to finally see a good structure within the club hierarchy however, the history of Old Trafford stadium itself is too rich to even consider leaving.
If the renovation would require to knock down a stand at a time & build around the pitch then so be it but the pitch should remain where it is, as should the United Trinity statues, the Munich tunnel & the bricks on the floor dedicated to former players & fans, may of which have passed away since they were installed.
You would be able to salvage the statues attached to the ground, the scoreboards, the Munich tunnel & other iconic parts of the stadium & put them back appropriately when renovations are complete.
I always have faith in this football club & I always will but I believe now more than ever we are on the verge of returning to where we should be & I believe Erik ten Hag is the right manager.
I know that Old Trafford is the right stadium.
Please make the right decision for Manchester United & the fans.
Kind regards, Ryan Scott
