Save the Grottoes, VA Grand Caverns Pool
The Issue

We will be establishing a way to donate soon!
6/1/2023 UPDATE!!! They have overturned the decision to demolishing the pool for now. We have approval for the formation of a Committee in partnership with Councilman Kohl to look into the viability of saving the pool, quotes and fundraising opportunities. We will be holding our first meeting in June 2023 to establish the voting members of the committee but need community support and involvement in the future!
We need to continue to put pressure on council and encourage votes and action/support in our favor for saving the pool for this to be an effective committee.
We have a commitment to a $10,500 generous donation from the owner of the businesses Plato's Closet, The Razor's Edge, Once Upon a Child already, but if you would like to make a donation, or know of business that would like to partner in this effort please email SaveGrottoesPool@gmail.com

Original Petition:
In February 2023 the Town Council discussed the costs associated with the repair of the Grand Caverns pool in the Town of Grottoes, VA. The cost of repairs is estimated to be $21,000. There have already been significant investments to the pool made in 2021 resulting in a renovated pool surface and consolidated splash pad area with the larger pool.
The argument some council members have made is the ongoing annual expenses for the pool are too high to continue to support. This is partly due due to the large amount of water loss due to the needed repairs. Some of those repairs have ALREADY happened this year resulting in 90% less water loss than in 2022.
If the pool was better promoted in the surrounding communities as well as within Grottoes it would continue to provide a value-added amenity to our town and to the Grand Caverns park.
In March 2023 the Town Council voted to not repair the pool further, not open the pool in 2023, and were actively getting estimates to DEMOLISH the pool! Hundreds of thousands of TAXPAYER dollars have already been invested in this pool, so why would we demolish something that is a town resource and amenity?!
PLEASE sign this petition to save the Grottoes pool from demolition and support of raising funds or encouraging town council to reconsider it's repair.
