Save the Great British Folk Festival

The Issue

We respectively ask the Senior Management of Butlins to reconsider and reinstate the Great British Folk Festival (GBFF) to their annual calendar of live music weekends.

We accept that the GBFF may not be the most lucrative event staged at Butlins however we wish to point out the following;

  1. The Folk Festival hosts  a diverse range of "roots" music that is largely ignored by the mainstream media but is loved by people of all ages.
  2. Butlins Skegness Resort makes a unique and ideal venue that few places (if anywhere) in the UK can match. Specifically, and importantly to the demographic of GBFF patrons, many of whom are elderly and/or have mobility problems, Butlins provides secure, safe and accessible accommodation, venues and facilities for people who unable to attend other music events. This is diversity and inclusiveness at its best and for this alone the  GBFF is an amazing event. There are people who attend this who cannt other more "mainstream" or "outdoor" festivals. For a number of people the 2021 GBFF was the first time they felt safe to leave home post covid.
  3. The GBFF has become a major event within the Folk diary and a showcase for upcoming young talent that is loved by many regular attendees.   Simply put, it has become a fantastic event that is artistically excellent, culturally diverse and remarkable for its inclusivity.

We would ask Butlins as an organisation that acknowledges its Corporate Responsibility to "save" the Great British Folk Festival and welcome back folk lovers again next year.

To paraphrase Billy Butlin himself ..."our true delight would be your intention to bring back the Great British Folk Festival"
