Australia Post are proposing to close the Gouger Street Post Office on 30 October 2026, which is the only post office in the western half of Adelaide City.

The closest alternatives will be in the CBD or Halifax Street, which are over a kilometre away. People that do not own a car – or cannot drive – such as our older and migrant population, will be most impacted.

This is not just a post office to residents and small businesses of Adelaide City's West. It's a local destination that we walk to, chat to neighbours in, do everyday business and access services that make city life convenient. It's an essential part of our mixed city community, and this has been overlooked.

Australia Post are consulting on the post office closure for two weeks, ending 16 August 2026. You can have your say by: 

• Completing a survey before 11:59pm, Sunday 16 August 2026.
• Filling in a feedback card in person at Adelaide Business Centre before 5:00pm, Friday 14 August 2026.
