The kangaroo rat is a species of kangaroo that lives in southern California and Mexico. It is currently under threat by a multitude of things, including habitat loss and human expansion. The Kangaroo rat is extremely important in its ecosystem, increasing plant activity, dispersing seeds, building shelters for other small animals, and making up the diet of many foxes. If it is to go extinct, the ecosystem would most likely collapse. Also, without the Kangaroo rat, many foxes would resort to eating small animals, such as neighborhood cats. This petition is a movement to set aside land for this cute little critter, so none of these disastrous effects take place.
