Save the fish, open Cormorant season in Maryland

The Issue

Opening a hunting season for the invasive Cormorant bird will allow growth of fish populations such as rockfish, perch, alewife, spot, and many other species.

If the Cormorant population continues to spiral out of control, with very few natural predators, we will continue to see a large decrease in the amount of gamefish and feeder fish in the bay.

In short, if we decrease the amount of Cormorants in the bay, we will see a natural increase in fish species which will help with the economy of commercial fisherman, as well as the amount of revenue created for Maryland Department of Natural Resources. It will help create a healthier bay, and a happier community of fisherman and hunters as well as wildlife activist who truly care about the health of our waters. The quicker we decrease the population of these invasive, non native birds, the quicker we’ll see an increase in the health of the bay. Thank you.
