Save the Ewan Lake from being drained

Save the Ewan Lake from being drained

The Issue

The Ewan Lake located in Ewan (Harrison Township), NJ has been a great local resource for fishing, recreation, tourism and fire protection for decades.  Now the Gloucester County Commissioners are planning to remove the dam, drain the lake, and deprive the local citizens of this amazing resource because they are not willing to pay to fix the dam.

Draining the lake will put the residents of Ewan, Richwood, and Elk Township at risk because they will lose a local draft site in case of a fire. A draft site is essentially a manual fire hydrant and is critical for fire protection in areas that don’t have municipal water and/or hydrants.

Draining the lake will also result in the loss of habitat and resource for bald eagles, fish, turtles, geese, ducks, beavers and all other animals who rely on this lake to live.

Additionally, removing the lake robs the local residents and visitors of recreational opportunities such as fishing, kayaking and canoeing that they’ve enjoyed over the years.

Please sign this petition to urge the Gloucester County Commissioners to save our beautiful lake, protect our residents, and animals so others may enjoy all it has to offer for generations to come.
