Save the Endangered Species Act from Harmful Rollbacks

The Issue

For more than 50 years, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) has protected the animals, plants, and habitats that define America’s wild legacy.

It has prevented the extinction of 99% of species under its care, from the bald eagle to the Florida manatee.

But now, that legacy is under threat.

The Trump administration has proposed regulatory rollbacks that would:

  • Strip new protections from threatened species, delaying lifesaving safeguards.
  • Weaken critical habitat designations, even for species whose survival depends on migration or climate-driven relocation.
  • Allow economic factors—not science—to influence whether a species is listed.
  • Prevent protection of habitat areas not currently occupied by the species, but essential to its recovery.
  • This is not conservation. It’s an extinction strategy.

We are calling on:

President Donald J. Trump
U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary
Members of the House and Senate Natural Resources Committees
To:

  • Withdraw proposed changes that weaken the ESA’s core protections.
  • Restore automatic protections for newly listed threatened species.
  • Maintain strong habitat protection rules, including those accounting for climate migration.
  • Ensure species listings are guided by science—not politics or profit.

Americans overwhelmingly support protecting endangered species and preserving our natural heritage. The ESA is one of our most successful, bipartisan environmental laws—and it must remain strong.

Sign this petition to tell the Trump administration: Protect the wildlife we love. Strengthen the ESA. Don’t dismantle it.
