Save the Elliott State Forest!

Save the Elliott State Forest!
The Issue
In many ways, our identities as Oregonians revolve around the special, unique places that provide the setting for our way of life - our adventures into the wild, our family camping trips, our escapes from daily life. They’re home to towering old-growth trees and clean, cold waterways, teeming with salmon and some of the best drinking water on Earth. These special places are a glimpse into the ancient, unspoiled land that used to be the whole of Oregon.
There are few clearer examples of these special places than the Elliott State Forest, 93,000 acres of unspoiled land near Coos Bay that is home to some of Oregon’s oldest, most majestic trees, rare and endangered wildlife, clean water, and some of the most intact native landscapes that exist in our state.
Unfortunately, some of the oldest trees and best native habitat in the Elliott are poised to be cut down. Small portions of the Elliott have been sold-off to logging companies, including one that has already said plain as day, “We will be clear-cutting.”
Oregon's state government is now considering proposals to sell off more of this precious landscape.
But, it’s not too late to save the rest of the Elliott State Forest!
We must urge our State Land Board – Governor John Kitzhaber, Secretary of State Kate Brown, and Treasurer Ted Wheeler – to find a better way forward on the Elliott. All of them share a love for Oregon’s natural treasures and we can help them to protect the Elliott State Forest by raising our voices together!
