Save the Cross Keys, Remer Street, Crewe

Save the Cross Keys, Remer Street, Crewe
The Issue
The Cross Keys is a wonderful building and dates from 1897. It is a great example of a large-scale Victorian public house building, of which there used to be several in Crewe. Although not a listed building, the Cross Keys is architecturally attractive and a local landmark on the junction of Remer Street, Broad Street, Stoneley Road and Bradfield Road. Losing this building to housing development robs Crewe of another piece of its architectural heritage, and removes variety and visual interest from the environment in which people live. The people of Crewe are tired of developers constantly and needlessly bulldozing our heritage and destroying links with the town's history. We urge Cheshire East to reconsider the proposed demolition and direct the developers to incorporate the existing building into the plans through effective re-use as residential property.
