Hi all,

I wanted to let you know that there has been a resolution in lieu of filing an appeal. A total of 9 redwoods that were slated for removal will be saved. Also, Sequoyah Country Club has committed to a beautification effort on Sequoyah Road which will include working with the City on planting trees along this street.

I want to thank you all for your support. I really appreciate it. The Sequoyah redwoods really appreciate it. As I mentioned in the GoFundMe, all the funds raised, minus the expert costs, will go to Trees For Oakland (over $1000!).

Ana

This is the joint statement:

After extensive discussions between Sequoyah Country Club and the surrounding community members, an agreement was reached. During the application period, Sequoyah Country Club preserved five additional coast redwoods across the property.  Four more redwoods at the intersection of Oak Hill Road and Sequoyah Road will also be added to the protection list, bringing the total number of protected Coast redwoods to 174.

In addition, SCC has also committed to partnering with Councilmember, Ken Houston, and the City of Oakland on beautification efforts along the city-owned side of the property on Sequoyah Road. As part of this initiative, SCC will be donating oak trees and other approved plantings to restore and enhance the natural beauty and landscape of the neighborhood.

We thank Councilmember Ken Houston, for his leadership in reaching this agreement and for his continued dedication to our district.
