Save the Campus Cats (at Troy University)

Saving the Troy University Campus Cats

Who is impacted:

The campus cats are the most impacted in this awful situation. The students, faculty, and staff who adore these cats are also impacted. Many students have said that these cats have helped them with their mental health and was the biggest reason why they decided to get their education at Troy University.

What is at stake?

Right now we are fighting to keep these innocent animals on campus. The University has hired a Trapper to trap and remove the cats from campus, upon receiving this information we were informed that the trapper has a history of killing any animal he traps (Assuming he will do the same to these innocent cats), we do know that if the trapper turns them into animal control they will be EUTHANIZED, all the shelters in Troy , AL and surrounding cities are FULL and do not take in feral cats. We have asked the University to leave the cats alone and have made them aware of our TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) efforts (University did not pay for any of it) of the campus cats to keep the population from growing. Not only did we make them aware of the TNR efforts but we also tried to propose a TNR program (NOT University funded) that will keep any cat on campus spayed/neutered and up to date on their rabies vaccination.  This TNR program will also help get the cats in a state where they can be pet, picked up, and held by our volunteers. Once the cats are able to accomplish this we will then put them into a trial foster home (14 days) to see if they would do well as a indoor cat. If they progress and enjoy indoor life we will then adopt them out. NOT every cat is going to want to do this so they would have to be returned to their home (Campus). This program would be a great addition to the University and will educate others on the impacts not spaying/neutering can do and how to be a responsible pet owner (Pets are a commitment).

Why Now?

It is very Important to act NOW because their lives are at risk! Many people have expressed how they want the cats to stay and find it inhumane that they would be removed. This will not only affect the campus cats but will also affect the student, faculty, staff, and anyone who visits Troy University.
