Most people would agree that there is something terribly wrong with shooting and smashing in the skulls of baby seals, yet despite international outrage, the canadian government allows sealers to beat and skin hundreds of thousands of these gentle creatures every year. So why is Canada killing seals?
The seal slaughter exists beacause of the overall demand for fur. During Canda's annual war on seals, sealers routinely hook live seals in the eye, cheek, or mouth to avoid damaging the fur, then they drag the seals across the ice. Many of these gentle creatures may not even have eaten their first solid meal or taken their first swim before they are slaughterd for skin.
In 2009 the European union voted to end the senate of seal products, and the U.S senate unanimously passed U.S senate Resolusion by calling for an immediate end to the annual seal slaughter. It is time for Canada to wake up and see what they are doing to these poor seals. Acording to an article of the The Guardian, 300,000 harp seal pups, virtually are beaten to death- their skulls crushed with a heavy club called a hakepick- or shot.

"Animals rights activits and conservation groups fear thet helpless baby seals will become the prime, easy targets of tourists. They also warn that seals are in danger of being over-hunted."

"Seal hunting has been a tradition in Norway fot thousands of years, but has dwindked recently with only about half the annual 1,200 qouta being killed each year. Despite this, under pressure from fishermen the qoute was raised to more than, 2,000 a couple of year ago." "Some campaigners have disputed the fishermen's claims that there is a link between seals and the decline in fish stocks. 'That's never been scientifically proven,' added Maren Esmark, marine conservation officer for the Norwegian branch of wildlife charity WWF. " This could be the other side, but this has never being prove.

"Some argue that over-fishing is the cause of devastated fish stocks. Seals, they point out, have happily coexisted with other marine life for most of their history."
