Save the B48 to Greenpoint!

Save the B48 to Greenpoint!
The Issue
The MTA is proposing a dramatic rerouting of the B48 bus. As part of the Brooklyn Bus Redesign draft plan released in December 2022, B48 buses will no longer run down Lorimer St in Williamsburg and Nassau Ave in Greenpoint. B48 buses will be rerouted towards Downtown Brooklyn on Flushing Ave, while the B69 bus to Windsor Terrace would replace service to Greenpoint. This shift is ill-advised and unacceptable for the following reasons:
- The proposed B48 rerouting will remove the only connection between western Crown Heights, western Bed Stuy, and Greenpoint. The Brooklyn Bus Redesign draft plan also reroutes the only other connection between Crown Heights/Bed Stuy and Greenpoint, the B43, moving it farther east from Brooklyn/Tompkins Aves to Albany Av/Marcus Garvey Blvd. These proposals leave the communities along Classon and Franklin Aves even farther away from a direct route to Williamsburg and Greenpoint.
- By re-routing the B69 to Greenpoint, this proposal reduces all bus service along Lorimer and Nassau Avenues. The B69 is set to run less frequently than the B48, with headways between buses of 30 minutes all day on weekends. That's just two per hour. Greenpoint residents along Nassau Avenue live over a half mile from the nearest subway stop — this reduction of service leaves them with even fewer transit options.
- The proposed B69 route is redundant with the G train, as it serves communities in Windsor Terrace, Park Slope, and Clinton Hill that already have direct access to Williamsburg and Greenpoint. The current B48 route fills a gap in intra-borough subway service in Brooklyn and should be preserved.

Further details about the changes to the B48 can be found on page 220 of the proposal linked here: https://new.mta.info/document/101521
The MTA has committed to accepting feedback to its first draft of the proposal in Winter 2023 before it implements the bus redesign later in the year. This petition will be shared with the MTA and with elected officials representing communities along the bus route. We hope that the MTA will recognize these community concerns about our beloved B48 before it publishes a final draft.
In addition to signing this petition, please submit a comment to the MTA's feedback form registering your concerns with both the reroute and the MTA's plans to cut overnight service on the B48: https://contact.mta.info/s/forms/bus-network-redesign
Thank you!
