Save the arts from generative AI
The Issue
We need solid legislation to save the arts from generative AI before it's too late. Please read this eye-opening, thoughtful, insightful, inspirational letter that clearly describes the issues we're facing: https://www.production-expert.com/production-expert-1/saving-the-arts-from-generative-ai-an-open-letter-from-mpse-president
The letter is written by an esteemed colleague of mine from the sound community named David Barber. He is a talented and creative supervising sound editor, re-recording mixer, and musician, as well as the president of the MPSE and a well respected industry leader. His writing includes appropriate recommended legislation to help support and protect human creativity and everyone that values anything created by humans.
Quoted directly from his letter, we urgently need to pass:
- Legislation prohibiting prompt-driven outputs or assets of Generative AI models, and whole works that contain prompt-driven outputs or assets of Generative AI models as any part of said whole, from being copyrighted.
- Legislation stating that all prompt-driven Generative AI outputs, assets, and derivatives need to be clearly labelled as such:
Visibly - pictures, images, and videos
Audibly - songs, scores, sound effects/design
Metadata - trackable for ALL generative AI output
A law, or laws, built upon these foundational principles, immediately protects human creativity by disallowing:
- Prompting a song into existence and profiting from it.
- Prompting a film or video into existence and profiting from it.
- The killing of creative departments and using prompt-driven outputs to replace their artistry.
- Unidentifiable deepfakes
Let's all stand together in support of this urgent matter. Please sign and share this petition to amplify our voice and protect human creativity!
