Save the Act, Save the Species! Bring the 2023 Recovering America's Wildlife Act into Law!

The Issue

The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act of 2023 (S. 1149) seeks to allocate over $1 billion per year for the purpose of protecting species on the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and those of the greatest conservation need, and almost $100 million per year towards protecting tribally managed species of greatest conservation need. Since its signing into law in 1973, the ESA has proved extremely effective at protecting threatened and endangered species in the United States. However, many at-risk and candidate species continue to suffer from the threat of extinction due to not being listed by the ESA. At the same time, there is an ongoing lack of funding to support indigenous tribes’ active participation in the protection and conservation of species.

By providing protection efforts to flora and fauna not yet listed by the Endangered Species Act, the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act of 2023 would dodge some of the current struggles for placing certain at-risk species on the Act and provide more immediate care for their ongoing survival and habitat protection efforts. With extinction on the clock, every second counts, and every moment before action is taken is one we cannot get back.

With organizers who have residence in the states of Massachusetts and New York, we are specifically focused on asking our state senators Kirsten Gillibrand, Chuck Schumer, Elizabeth Warren, and Ed Markey to co-sponsor this Act and bring it into national law.
