Ed Markey is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party who has been serving as the U.S. Senator from Massachusetts since 2013. Prior to his senate position, Markey served in the United States House of Representatives for 37 years, from 1976 to 2013. Known widely for his dedication to combating climate change, he co-authored the Green New Deal. Throughout his career, Markey has also been an advocate for nuclear disarmament and internet neutrality. He served as chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.
