Save Territory! The Northern Territory's Biggest Show Ever Cancelled
The issue
Territory, a six-part Netflix show released in October 2024, was one of the biggest TV shows ever filmed in the Northern Territory and South Australia. Centered around the world's biggest cattle station, the fictional Marianne Station, the show employed 180 crew and showed the world rural Australia, greatly helping tourism. However, the show was canceled by Netflix, despite being number one in eleven countries and reaching the top 10 in 74. Now, Netflix has canceled hits before with their merciless axe, however, for a growing film industry like Australia, this is devastating.
I am demanding Netflix to reconsider. If given the time, this show could become a major hit, as it already arguably has. It is a slap in the face to taxpayers in the Northern Territory as the government has funded this an immense amount, as well as the actors and producers involved. My hope is that Netflix reconsiders, or more likely, another network, like Stan, who is a champion of Australian drama, pick it up.
Don't think this is an impossible task. Shows like Firefly in the U.S have been saved by fan support, and if you care about the Australian film industry, sign this petition. We need to show that big business does not have the right to discard Australian products.
