Save Telangana’s 400-Acre Kancha Gachibowli Forest from Destruction!

Save Telangana’s 400-Acre Kancha Gachibowli Forest from Destruction!
The Issue
To:
Shri A. Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister of Telangana
Principal Secretary, Environment, Forests, Science & Technology, Government of Telangana
Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC)
Telangana High Court
Petition:
We, the undersigned, urgently demand a halt to the Telangana government’s plan to clear 400 acres of precious land in Kancha Gachibowli, near the University of Hyderabad. This isn’t just barren land—it’s a thriving ecosystem with 734 plant species, 220 bird species, and unique grasslands that have stood for decades. It’s a biodiversity hotspot, a natural shield against Hyderabad’s rising heat, and a heritage we cannot afford to lose.
The government claims this isn’t forest land and belongs solely to them, not the university. But legal titles don’t erase ecological truth: this is a “deemed forest” under Supreme Court guidelines, home to Telangana’s state bird, the Indian Roller, and the iconic Mushroom Rock. Clearing it for IT parks or auctions will spike temperatures by 1–4°C, worsen air quality, and rob future generations of a vital green lung—all for short-term profit projected at ₹10,000–15,000 crore.
Students, scientists, and citizens aren’t “misled”—we’re fighting for our planet. Two Public Interest Litigations are before the Telangana High Court as of April 2, 2025, challenging this destruction. Over 22,000 have already joined this cause. Now, we need YOU to amplify our voice.
We demand:
An immediate moratorium on clearing the 400 acres in Kancha Gachibowli.
A comprehensive, independent environmental impact assessment to recognize its ecological value.
Official protection of this land as a biodiversity reserve, not a development zone.
Telangana can lead in sustainability, not destruction. Sign now to save Kancha Gachibowli’s, because once it’s gone, no amount of revenue can bring it back.
