Our high street is changing, and many of the independent, community-led businesses that make our town unique are being pushed out. They are being replaced by large national retailers, but these businesses cannot replace the community, support and opportunities that local organisations provide.
Mini Me Role Play Café has never been just a play centre. It has been a place where families come together, children learn through play, and lifelong friendships are made. Over the years, they have proudly provided:
Reception school meet-ups to help children and parents build friendships before starting school.
Inclusive SEN sessions for families who often struggle to find suitable activities.
Baby and toddler groups that have supported new parents.
Christmas donation drives for children and families in need.
Educational events, seasonal celebrations and affordable family activities.
A safe, welcoming space where parents, carers, grandparents and childminders can connect.
Other independent businesses, such as I Am Yogi, have also become vital community hubs, improving wellbeing, reducing isolation and bringing people together.
These places are more than businesses—they are the heart of Sutton Coldfield.
If we continue to lose independent businesses, we lose the spaces that create connection, support local families, encourage children's development and give our town its identity.
We are calling on Gracechurch Centre, local decision-makers and everyone who cares about Sutton Coldfield to recognise the importance of protecting community-focused independent businesses alongside national retailers.
A thriving town centre should have a balance of both.
