SAVE STROKOS!

Hi, my name is David Van De Carr. I am a Respiratory Therapist at Mount Sinai Morningside/Saint Luke’s.

You may have heard that Strokos restaurant is closing at the end of November. Mount Sinai owns the building, which, in addition to offices and the restaurant, houses the 114th Street garage. It will undergo necessary construction work over the next 6-9 months.

Nick Pantelatos, the owner of Strokos understands that his two restaurants, (Strokos and Niko’s next door) will have to vacate for safety and liability reasons for the duration of the construction. Still, Mount Sinai has not offered or guaranteed a new lease to Nick when the construction is over. I get my breakfast there every day and it is just across the street for us during the weekends and holidays, including through most of the pandemic. Nick and the crew over at Strokos have been great friends to my Department and me. Strokos is the only local alternative to the cafeteria in the hospital, also being open on weekends and all day. Everyone who has heard this news has been universally disappointed that Mount Sinai will not commit to giving this restaurant and its 35 employees a home again when they can.

Please sign this petition to urge Mount Sinai to reconsider taking away a neighborhood fixture forever.

¡SALVA A LOS STROKOS!

Hola, mi nombre es David Van De Carr y soy terapeuta respiratorio aquí en Mount Sinai Morningside/Saint Luke's.

Seguramente habrás oído que el restaurante Strokos cerrará a finales de noviembre. El motivo del cierre es que Mount Sinai es propietario del edificio, que además de las oficinas y el restaurante, alberga el garaje de la calle 114, y se realizarán los trabajos de construcción necesarios durante los próximos 6 a 9 meses.

Nick Pantelatos, el propietario de Strokos, entiende que sus dos restaurantes (el de al lado, Strokos y Niko) tendrán que desalojarlos por razones de seguridad y responsabilidad mientras dure la construcción, pero Mount Sinai no ha ofrecido ni garantizado un nuevo contrato de arrendamiento a Nick cuando la construcción ha terminado. Desayuno allí todos los días y está justo al otro lado de la calle durante los fines de semana y días festivos, incluso durante la mayor parte de la pandemia. Nick y el equipo de Strokos han sido grandes amigos conmigo personalmente y con mi departamento. Strokos es la única alternativa local a la cafetería del hospital y también abre los fines de semana y todo el día. Todos los que han escuchado esta noticia se han sentido universalmente decepcionados de que Mount Sinai no se comprometa a darle a este restaurante y a sus 35 empleados un hogar nuevamente cuando puedan.

Firme esta petición para instar a Mount Sinai a reconsiderar la posibilidad de quitarle un elemento fijo al vecindario para siempre.
