The issue

The Sandhurst Diocese is closing St Mary's Primary School in Inglewood, after more than 160 years, citing low enrolment numbers and "sustainability".

Families have been directed towards the state primary school or the catholic school in Bendigo via a bus, completing ignoring the fact that St Mary's is a part of Inglewood's history.

My children have both attended St Mary's since 2020. My family is not catholic, and yet the staff at St Mary's welcomed us with open arms, and my kids have flourished in their care. And it hasn't only been my kids who have benefited. When I've needed help or advice, the St Mary's staff have been there. When Inglewood lost an incredibly special member of the community, the staff were there - crying with us. The teachers and parents have organised fund-raisers for charity, volunteered catering hours for funerals, and given their everything to help raise the community's kids.

And in the end, Sandhurt wants to bring this down to numbers and money.

With this petition, I beg Sandhurst Diocese to reconsider. My youngest son might be almost finished at St Mary's, but there are other children who still need these teachers, and who would be worse off without their care. Please, don't let this beautiful school fade away to nothing.
