Save St Anthony’s School - Our Children need your help
The Issue
We are asking you to sign this petition so that we can urge Wrexham Diocese and Flintshire Council to keep St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School open until at least 2029 for the benefit of our children, families, and the entire community. This school has been an essential part of our community for over 150 years providing quality education, spiritual guidance, and a nurturing environment for generations of students.
Reasons for Keeping St Anthony’s Open:
1. A Strong Community Pillar: St Anthony’s is not just a school; it is the heart of our community. It has been a safe and supportive space for our children to grow academically, socially, and spiritually. The school’s closure would create a void in our community that would be hard to fill.
2. Quality Education with a Catholic Foundation: The school offers an education grounded in Catholic values, emphasizing character development, compassion, and academic excellence. Families choose this school for its faith-based approach and its commitment to holistic development, which cannot be easily replaced by other institutions.
3. The Impact on Local Families: Many families in our area depend on St Anthony’s for their children's education. Its closure would force families to seek alternative schools that may not offer the same sense of community, faith-based curriculum, or level of support. This could be particularly difficult for low-income families or those with limited access to transportation.
4. The Impact on Children: So many children are to be affected by this. Local schools have very few spaces and the plan to bus children as young as 4 to schools over 10miles away makes no sense. The school has a number of neurodiverse children and children with disabilities- change for them is huge and they deserve to have continuity till the new school in Saltney is built, that can support the number of students affected.
5. Support for Local Employment: The closure of the school would affect the livelihoods of teachers, staff, and many local businesses that depend on the school community. Many of our residents work at the school or provide services for it, and its closure would result in job losses and economic challenges.
6. Preserving Tradition: St Anthony’s has a long and rich history of nurturing generations of children. Its closure would not only affect our current students but also the future of our community. The school’s legacy is one of faith, love, and community, which we believe should be preserved.
What We Ask: We respectfully request that you reconsider any decision to close St Anthony’s in 2026 and instead work to ensure its continued operation whilst the other schools do the same. We ask that the necessary resources and support be provided to help the school remain open, so that the children can continue to benefit from the education and values that it provides.
We are confident that with your support, we can work together to ensure that St Anthony’s remains a thriving institution for our community for many years to come.
