Save Sparkhill library from closure and being sold off.

Save Sparkhill library from closure and being sold off.

The Issue

Sparkhill library is a community hub for children as well as adults. It is an essential part of Sparkhill  and serves the local community, the iconic building constructed in the 1900s is spacious enough for community events.

It would be a shame if this building was to be sold off and become  just another restaurant or banquet hall as is common in Sparkhill.

Sparkhill library serves the people of Sparkhill, Sparkbrook and Springfield. All within walking distance.  Located in the centre of sparkhill next to Sparkhill swimming pool and fitness centre as well as Sparkhill Park.

Sparkhill is an underprivileged neighbourhood, closing the library will have a detrimental effect on the residents as the library is the only safe place children can go and the only warm place for many older residents.  The library provides essential services for many people without internet access and provides a quiet environment for many teenagers who need to study for exams.

Many children in Sparkhill/Sparkbrook already live in poverty. Closing the library would have a severe effect on children's development as many children do not have access or the means to travel to other libraries. Walking is the only option for many people in the local area.

Please save our library by petitioning Birmingham City council and councillors.
