Save South La Jolla

Save South La Jolla

The Issue

SAVE SOUTH LA JOLLA

South La Jolla is home to one of the most biodiverse and biologically productive marine ecosystems found in Southern California. Unfortunately it's under threat from over fishing, climate change, and habitat destruction.  But there is a plan to save it, and you can help!

Under legislation passed and signed in 1999, this area can be saved. And by saving it, we can improve the overall health of southern California's ocean.

The key is adoption of a science-based marine reserve at south La Jolla by the state's Fish and Game Commission.  According to the science, in order to truly protect this unique ecosystem, the reserve in south La Jolla needs to be a minimum of nine square miles and should protect all plants and animals from removal or destruction. The marine reserve currently being proposed falls short, only offering protection for seven square miles of this important area.

We urge you to SAVE SOUTH LA JOLLA by expanding the marine reserve that was proposed by the Blue Ribbon Task Force.

Please sign this petition telling the California Fish and Game Commission that we need a strong network of Marine Protected Areas.
