Save South Irving Collegiate Academy

The Issue

As a new school in the Irving Independent School District, (South Irving Collegiate Academy), we were promised our own campus along with new dreams and hopes. Although we did never get our own campus, we made do with what we had. We rented out a small section of North Lake College were we students currently take classes. We were also promised electives and clubs but to no surprise, those never came through. We decided that even though we couldn't have all those things, we decided we could still make our own student council. Although we did start one, the necessities we needed from our district were never met. Irving ISD has known about our school for 2 years now, and yet not once did they put in an effort to make our school successful.

Our beautiful academy includes about 100 students, 7 teachers, a loving principal, vice principal, and many other hard working staff members. On March 1, 2023 all students and staff were called to a meeting where we were informed that all students would be sent to Nimitz, the school next door. This would happen because the district would shut down South Irving to cut off funds. The same funds that were meant for us were used on every other schools problems.

We are all devastated by this news. Parents are furious, and students are incredibly sad. After this school year, all teachers will lose their employment, and all pupils will have to give up the place they now affectionately call home. Students specifically selected this institution for its sense of security and family. We were also made to believe that we could be the start of something new. a fresh culture and a new school. Something to be proud of, something us students would look back on years later with a smile on our faces, saying we did that. We paved the path for upcoming trailblazers.

Students won't have the chance to reach their full potential if South Irving is kept out of the mix. According to numerous studies from SICA's inaugural year, we have outperformed every other institution. We excelled in all areas, including attendance, daily grades, and test grades. We have been able to achieve this because of our small campus and culture. If we are put into Nimitz, everything we believe in and have worked for will be thrown away. We will be cast aside to a small hallway in Nimitz and we will no longer have the support of teachers and other students. Many people will start to let go of their education and lives because of what they would've lost.

Save South Irving!
