Save Sonia's Classroom Kitchen
Save Sonia's Classroom Kitchen
The issue
The classroom of I4 holds a sacred place in the hearts of the senior students at MSHS. It has become a space respected and cherished over the years, not only for its educational value but as a center of creativity and community spirit. The kitchen amenities available in this classroom provide an incredibly unique experience; it's a privilege that fosters both learning and camaraderie amongst students.
Despite this, a decision has been made to remove the kitchen from I4. This decision comes as a shock and feels thoroughly dystopian, especially when we have volunteered the option to have these facilities tested and certified safe by a professional electrician. The move stands to strip students of joys and opportunities that are rarely offered elsewhere in our educational environment.
A classroom kitchen offers a myriad of learning opportunities, promoting life skills such as cooking, nutrition, and teamwork. It encourages practical applications of subjects like math and science. It creates a welcoming environment for social engagement, nurturing friendships and invaluable life experiences. Having such resources readily available in our school system is a model that should be preserved rather than discarded.
Many students including myself have used the utilities to warm up lunch or make lunch entirely, including instant noodles and last nights left overs.
We ask for support and a reconsideration of the decision to dismantle this beloved kitchen. By allowing the professional assessment and potential certification of the kitchen as safe, we can continue to provide an enriched, engaging environment for our students.
Join us in preserving this vital part of our school community's fabric. Sign this petition to save Sonia's classroom kitchen from removal and to maintain it as a precious learning and social hub for current and future students of MSHS. Together, we can make a difference by safeguarding educational opportunities that extend beyond textbooks and require hands-on experience.
