Save Shiprock

Save Shiprock
The Issue
We are asking the Navajo Nation to post signs at all the entrances to Shiprock rock formation and billboards along the main highways on the Navajo Nation, informing tourists that hiking, camping, climbing, and OHV (off-highway vehicle) travel is not allowed anywhere on the Navajo Nation unless a permit is obtained. Help us protect and preserve Shiprock for future generations of Navajo people and for future generations of visitors to Navajo lands. Join the fight to safeguard Shiprock, to respect Tribal lands, and preserve our culture and history! Sign if you agree!
From @native_power_rangers post:
Shiprock is currently being destroyed, eroded, and trashed by the hundreds of tourists who visit it each year. It is being loved to death by sight seers, movie fans, and photographers. It is one of the most iconic rock formations in the southwest United States and has been featured in popular movies and TV shows such as The Mandalorian, Transformers, Avengers, The Lone Ranger, and Finch.
Shiprock is a sacred place for the Diné (Navajo) people. We call this place Tsé Bit’a’í or Rock with Wings. It was once the home of Tsé Ninájàlééh, the Monster Bird from Diné (Navajo) creation history. The Hero Twins traveled to Shiprock and slayed this monster bird who was terrorizing the people.
It is a volcanic neck or the inner core of volcano that was probably 1000 meters below land surface when it was active 30 million years ago. Today it towers 7,178 feet above sea level and contains stunning dikes, or wall-like sheets of lava, that expand across the desert landscape.
Have respect. Do not travel these dirt roads just because there is no gate or signage. Do not leave the main highway anywhere on the Navajo Nation unless you have a permit from the Navajo Nation Parks and Rec Department —without one, you are trespassing on tribal lands!
Sorry folks, but Shiprock is off limits to all non-Navajos unless you obtain a permit from the Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation Department.
