On Friday,January 20, 2012, two days before midterms, Sacred Heart High School in Vineland, New Jersey was abruptly informed that we will close at the end of this school year. The students of Sacred Heart had two things on their mind that day: Midterms, and Snowball. We were called down to the gym in the middle of the day and waited for 15 minutes in pure anxiety. First to speak to the group of waiting students was our loved principal Mrs. Diana Tucker, she told us that Msgr. Burton was about to deliver bad news. Msgr. walked to the center of the basketball court, where many memories took place; including a 12-0 record for the girls basketball team this season. He pulled out a binder and read a statement given to the school from Bishop Galante. Tears quickly filled everyone's eyes as we were informed that our family would be split apart due to the closing of Sacred Heart and two other sister schools. 80 years of many family generations are now ending, completely for financial reasons.Sacred Heart High School is the only Catholic high school in all of Cumberland County located in Vineland-the largest city in New Jersey. We feel that closing this school not only splits apart a community but adds more stress to the parents who now need to drive at least forty minutes to the nearest Catholic high school or send their children to a less advanced school.
