Santana High’s Digital Media program (which includes audio production, photography, and film) is being replaced by a business program and Introduction to Photography art class. Our talents should not be forced into rubrics and put into creative cages because there’s not enough people registering for the pathway and gained low retention for a while. Santana may have a string of art classes a student can take but not even Drama can stimulate students’ brains and teach students the skills taught the same way Digital Media does. Digital Media or AME should be respected just as much as our Engineering, Health, and Music programs offered at Santana. In addition, the AME film pathway at Santana is one of 3 AME film pathways left in Grossmont High School district. One in 3 of our entire district— that would leave our 15 schools with only 2 film programs left.

It’s upsetting that both our Drama and AME programs are in jeopardy for the same reasons when we have only just revived our Drama program this year (of 11 years of inactivity) and hired a long-term teacher for Digital Media 1-2 years ago.

Please help us save Santana’s Digital Media/AME pathway.
