Save Sankey Tank! Stop Concretisation and White-Topping

Save Sankey Tank! Stop Concretisation and White-Topping
The Issue
A petition urging citizens of Sadashivanagar and all who love Bengaluru's green lungs to demand a halt to the concrete road surfacing along Sankey Road.
The government proposes to white-top the road from Mint Masala (Bashyam Circle) to Nikki's Pub. This concrete surface will act as an impermeable seal, blocking natural groundwater recharge that sustains Sankey Tank one of Bengaluru's oldest and most cherished urban water bodies. Our demands to BBMP & the Government of Karnataka:
1. Immediately halt the white-topping project on Sankey Road pending environmental review.
2. Commission an independent Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) before any road work.
3. Adopt permeable paving alternatives that allow groundwater recharge.
4. Consult Sadashivanagar residents, the Karnataka Lake Conservation Authority, and independent ecologists.
5. Uphold and strengthen Blue-Green Infrastructure policy around all urban lakes in Bengaluru.
Organised by Voice of Sadashivanagar Submitted to: BBMP Commissioner, Karnataka Lake Conservation Authority, and Ministry of Environment, Government of Karnataka.
