Save Salcombe Regis - the village is again under threat!

Save Salcombe Regis - the village is again under threat!
The Issue
Salcombe Regis is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt coastal villages in East Devon.
The heart of the village is a Conservation Area and it lies within the East Devon National Landscape (AONB) and also within a Coastal Preservation Area. So you would think this precious place would be pretty well protected!
Unfortunately, there will always be those who wish to exploit these special places for financial gain and yet again the village is on the brink of new plans that threaten to change the campsite and village forever - so we urgently need your support!
Since the 1960s Salcombe Regis Camping and Caravan Park has operated on fields overlooking the village and has seen generations of families come to enjoy the natural beauty of the area at a modest cost - staying in their tents, touring caravans and campers during the holiday season. As the season draws to a close the site shuts down for winter months until the following spring.
However, the current owners want to end this seasonal cycle and keep the site open all year round by removing a 36 year old planning condition preventing winter occupation of caravans. This would lead to a gradual phasing out of all the seasonal touring caravan pitches to be replaced by more profitable permanent luxury holiday lodges for all year round occupation. They have jumped the gun and are already offering them for sale on the open market as holiday homes with a starting price of £315K (+ hefty annual ground rent!).
The current application would allow the building of 21 lodges (effectively new homes) that would almost double the number of homes in this ancient settlement overnight and negatively impact the village in many ways: extra traffic congestion in the narrow single track lanes from domestic household deliveries, winter light pollution through the leafless hedges, extra demands on water and sewage, increased water run off adding to flooding in the village below etc. It will be the beginning of the end for the campsite as we know it with seasonal holiday makers and young families losing out to second home owners.
Please sign and share this petition and help us save this precious gem of a village for the next generation which (up until now) has managed to survive the pressures of over development.
More information on the plans at Salcombe Regis Camping and Caravan Park can be found on the East Devon planning website application reference: 24/2174/VAR and 24/2279/VAR
We believe the application will be heard at the EDDC planning committee sometime early in 2025.
