Save RTS Trail System from Cemetery Development

Save RTS Trail System from Cemetery Development
The Issue
Summit County / Snyderville Basin Cemetery District has put forth a proposal for a new cemetery on 10-acre location on top of the popular RTS Winter Trail System. While we understand there is a need for an additional cemetery in Summit County, we DO NOT support this location.
This trail network is often used by the public, local ski clubs and college teams. It was the location for the 2014 Winter Olympic Nordic Combined Trials. It is well loved by runners, hikers and mountain bikers in the summer, and a location for the Moose on the Loose Trail Series. Even if the existing trail was rerouted, we do not think it appropriate to have a cemetery right next to a public trail network, and is the case at most cemeteries.
We also believe this will add too much congestion to this corridor. Utah Olympic Park is already a popular destination and will only get more popular as we build up to the 2034 Olympics. The location is also right next to Run-A-Muk, a very popular trailhead/dog park in the Snyderville Basin.
Please sign this petition and let Snyderville Basin Cemetery District we prefer another location for a cemetery.
Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District’s Administrative Control Board will be hearing a presentation from the Cemetery District and accepting public comment during its meeting on Thursday May 8, at approximately 6:00 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Basin Recreation Trailside Office, 5715 Trailside Drive, Park City, UT 84098, and will also be available via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81092537384
