The Issue

I have had the privilege of knowing the owner of Rocky Ridge Learning Center, Takara, for 8 years, and I sent both of my children through her nurturing and supportive school. Takara is not only a dedicated educator and businesswoman, but she also runs a minority and woman-owned business that serves as a beacon of hope and opportunity for countless families in our community. Rocky Ridge Learning Center (RRLC), a full-time pre-kindergarten school and daycare, is currently facing a sudden and unfair eviction, threatening the future of an essential institution for both children and their families.

For years, RRLC has been a cornerstone for working parents, offering a safe, educational, and inclusive environment for early childhood development. It plays a critical role in preparing our children for future academic success and supporting parents by providing reliable childcare. The eviction puts the future of these crucial services in jeopardy, potentially displacing numerous children and their families, and disrupting the lives of staff who have dedicated themselves to this mission.

The eviction decision does not take into account the significant impact on the community, nor does it recognize the value of RRLC as a minority-owned enterprise, contributing positively to the economy and cultural fabric.  Many parents frequent the surrounding businesses, eat at the restaurants, and support the businesses local endeavors. It's imperative to stress the value of diversity and support for women entrepreneurs as they play a vital role in driving progress and equity.

I urge Parents, community leaders, and others to intervene and help halt this eviction process by Robin Morgan, of Morgan Properties, LLC.  We must come together to find an equitable solution that allows RRLC to continue its operations in the same space, support its families, and preserve its role in our community's future. By doing so, we not only protect a beloved institution but also uphold the values of fairness, diversity, and opportunity that our Vestavia community champions.

Please join me in supporting Takara and Rocky Ridge Learning Center by signing this petition. Together, we can advocate for a fair review of the lease terms, and find a sustainable path forward for this essential community institution. Your signature can make a difference in safeguarding the educational and childcare services vital to our local families.
