Developer Plan Threatens Historic Neighborhood, Local Wildlife, and Community Character

📍 Robbinsville Township, NJ
🗓 Public Hearing: September 16th @ 7 PM – Robbinsville Municipal Building

A developer has purchased more than 5 acres of open land along Robbinsville-Allentown Road, nestled directly behind 11 homes in the beloved Hillside Terrace neighborhood—one of Robbinsville’s oldest, built in the 1950s—and directly across from the Sandlewood neighborhood.

Their plan is to build six oversized McMansions and a cul-de-sac—bulldozing through history, nature, and the very character of our community.

This petition is a call to action for residents, nature lovers, preservationists, and taxpayers:👉 Tell Robbinsville Township to purchase this property as protected open space.

🏡 What’s at stake?

🐿 A Natural Habitat, Destroyed. Over 100 mature trees will be cut down. 20-30% of the trees to be removed are 50-60 feet tall. The property is home to deer, foxes, birds, bats, coyotes, groundhogs, and countless other species that call this land home. There will be no relocation—just demolition.

🕰 Historic Legacy, Erased. A home built circa 1880 at 126 Robbinsville-Allentown Road is slated for demolition. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

🚗 Traffic, Flooding, Noise & Light Pollution.

Residents in Hillside Terrace and surrounding neighborhoods will face:

  • Increased stormwater runoff and flooding risks
  • More traffic congestion on already busy roads
  • Light and noise pollution disrupting peaceful homes

💸 Higher Taxes, Not Better Services. New homes = more students = higher schooling costs. Your tax dollars will pay for services that the developer profits from—without community benefit.

🌳 A Smarter, Greener Solution

Robbinsville already has the highest open space tax in Mercer County—but where’s that money going?

Instead of overdevelopment, we propose:

✅ Robbinsville Township purchases the property for preservation
✅ Mercer County can fund 40% of the cost through open space funding
✅ Protects nature, reduces flooding, and saves long-term taxpayer costs
✅ Preserves one of the last green spaces from the original Hillside farm

This land—its rolling grassy slopes, tall trees, and historic roots—is irreplaceable. Let’s preserve it for future generations.
