The Issue

Provo Canyon is a serene natural gem cherished by the residents of Utah Valley for its exceptional tranquility and unspoiled beauty. It serves as a peaceful retreat, offering escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. However, this cherished peace is now under threat due to the proposed Vesper development, which aims to construct an outdoor amphitheater venue designed to attract crowds of up to 20,000 people per event.

The introduction of the massive Vesper development at the entrance to Provo Canyon would fundamentally alter the character of this beloved area. The influx of tens of thousands of visitors will lead to severe disruptions in traffic, turning quiet roads into congested arteries and creating a logistical nightmare for local law enforcement and emergency services. The infrastructure of the area is not geared to handle such an overwhelming influx, and the financial burden of upgrading these facilities will fall on the shoulders of local taxpayers.

Many people use Provo Canyon for their daily commute including truckers, people who work in Heber Valley, people who work in Utah Valley, and not to mention those that live IN the canyon including Springdell, Vivian Park, and Sundance.   The two main arteries that lead into the canyon (800 North in Orem and University Avenue in Provo) are already congested and those who live along those corridors will be greatly impacted for miles in both directions.

The environmental impact of this development cannot be overstated. The construction and operation of the venue pose a significant threat to local wildlife, which relies on the canyon's habitat for survival. Increased human activity, noise pollution, and light pollution will all contribute to the degradation of this critical environmental sanctuary that local recreationists love.

While development and growth are important for economic progress, the QUALITY OF LIFE for local citizens who need and use this canyon is more important.  Provo Canyon is simply not the right place for such a large-scale commercial endeavor.

We call upon local government officials, urban planners, and the developers to reconsider this proposal. We advocate for an alternative location that can accommodate Vesper without sacrificing the sanctuary of Provo Canyon. Let us preserve the tranquility and natural beauty of this cherished area for generations to come.

Please sign this petition to voice your opposition to the Vesper development in Provo Canyon and protect the peace, wildlife, and community of Utah Valley.
