Save Poyntons Nursery: Protect a 90-year community landmark in Essendon
The issue
It took me five months to return after learning Poyntons in Essendon had been sold to developers—without any community consultation. I’ve been coming here since I was 8 with my grandmother. Her love of plants lives on through our family because of this wonderful place. For us, and for many others in the community, Poyntons isn’t just a business—it’s a 90-year landmark where people connect, learn, and nurture their love for nature.
The announcement of the sale to developers came as a shock to all of us who treasure Poyntons Nursery as a vital part of our community’s heritage and culture. This iconic establishment has been a sanctuary for countless families, gardening enthusiasts, and local residents who gather to experience the serenity and beauty it offers.
The sudden news of redevelopment plans threatens to erase an irreplaceable part of our community’s identity and history. It wasn’t just a place for commerce, but a shared space providing education, leisure, and a sense of community that is unique to Essendon. Poyntons has hosted events, workshops, and provided invaluable resources that have supported the interests and passions of thousands over the years.
We call on the Moonee Valley City Council to halt any further development plans until a thorough community consultation process has taken place. Community voices should be heard and considered in decisions that impact such an important landmark.
By signing this petition, you are supporting the collective voice of the community, demanding transparency and a chance to preserve a place that means so much to so many. Help us save Poyntons Nursery—an irreplaceable thread in the fabric of our local heritage.
Please add your signature and share this petition with friends, family, and fellow community members. Together, we can make a difference and protect the essence of Essendon’s heritage for future generations.
