Save Petey: Give This Sweet Shelter Dog a Chance at Life

Save Petey: Give This Sweet Shelter Dog a Chance at Life
The Issue
Petey is a 5-year-old pit mix who has spent nearly his entire life behind shelter walls. He came to rescue as a 6-month-old puppy — bright, sweet, and full of potential. But after years of isolation and stress, Petey developed behaviors born of kennel life.
Now, despite being in a no-kill rescue, Petey faces euthanasia in just two days. He has been labeled “aggressive,” but those who know him best — his longtime handlers — tell a different story.
One handler shared:
“I was Petey’s best friend and primary handler for over 2 years. It took patience, trust, and a muzzle at first, but soon he blossomed. We became inseparable. Petey doesn’t know how to be a dog because he’s never been given the chance. He is on medication for arthritis and anxiety, but what he truly needs is human connection. He has also made friends with another pittie. His aggression is not who he is — it’s what happens when a dog spends 4 years isolated without stability.”
Petey even had a chance at professional training three years ago, when a certified trainer offered to take him into her home. She proposed using a vibration/shock collar as a safety backup, but the board declined — and Petey lost the chance to leave the shelter.
Petey deserves more than a death sentence after years of confinement. He deserves:
- A foster or adopter who is patient, calm, and willing to continue his progress.
- A transfer to a rescue experienced with dogs like him.
- The chance to live in a home where he can learn what it means to be safe and loved.
We ask the Fayette Friends of Animals (FFOA) Board to reconsider Petey’s case. Donors, volunteers, and community members stand ready to support a different outcome.
Petey is not disposable. His life matters.
Please sign and share to give Petey the chance he has never had.
