Torbay Council as part of the regeneration of Paignton want to cut the existing taxi rank on Paignton Railway Station from 20 cars to only 5. This will have a detrimental impact on the taxi drivers livelihoods who already pay for a permit to work on this rank. Not only will there be not enough taxis to cope with local work but passengers from the trains cut be left in limbo? Local residents who have already been cut off from stage coach will no longer be able to rely on this local taxi service to bridge that gap. We are calling for this decision to be reversed so all parties , local people , train customers and indeed holiday makers will not be left stranded at the railway station due to lack of taxis. Elderly people will lose their only way home , disabled customers from the railway could be left stranded. Clubbers on a Fri and Sat night are facing waiting even longer than normal to get home .With all the other road changes in Paignton this could be the final nail in the coffin for the town so please act now ! Save the rank and save Paignton!
