Save Our West Side Bus Routes & Improve Our Mass Transit Options!

The Issue

Please SIGN THIS PETITION to support our:

1. opposition to the planned discontinuation of our area’s public bus services;

2. demand for improved public transportation connectivity between the West Side & the central transportation hubs of Journal Square & downtown Jersey City

Danforth Avenue based A & C Bus Company, which services the west side of Jersey City, will soon cease its operations in October 2023. Its demise will negatively affect those who ride the following:

• Bus 30 - Society Hill
• Bus 31 - Montgomery & West Side
• Bus 32 - 440 Shopper
• Bus 33 - Bergen Avenue

Those routes are the public transportation lifeline of numerous Jersey City neighborhoods, particularly the southwest quadrant of the city (Wards A & B).

Who are adversely affected?

• residents who commute along West Side, Montgomery, Mallory, Communipaw, Bergen, & Sip Avenues including areas such as Bergen Square, McGinley Square, Lincoln Park, NJCU, Country Village, Society Hill, Curries Woods, Hudson Mall;

• constituents who rely on public transportation to get to & from work, school, church, doctors, shopping, and any other places & activities outside of their immediate areas;

• local businesses, places of worship, schools, & organizations whose support base use public transportation

We are not downtown so we do not have the privilege of having the improvements, amenities, and favored attention that specific compact part of the city gets, but we are a significant & growing number whose voices must be heard & whose basic needs must be met.

Losing the few critical and basic mass transit options we have is utterly not acceptable. Our elected bodies of government have the responsibility to ensure that we are not marginalized just because of geography, demographics, & lifestyle. To ignore our mass transit needs is gross negligence on the part of our representatives, particularly considering Mayor Steve Fulop’s push to embrace more sustainable modes of transportation with private vehicles being derided by so many downtowners. Bikes & Via are supplementary to the most basic of all mass transit offerings.

Jersey City must collaborate with Hudson County & New Jersey State Agencies to ensure our public transportation network – that is funded by our hard-earned tax dollars – is equitably shared by all.

The time is ticking closer to October 31, 2023 when the bus services will cease. An effective & immediate plan must be implemented to make sure that there is no disruption in the bus services for the hard-working people of Jersey City’s west side.

PLEASE KINDLY SIGN THIS PETITION NOW.

Thank You!
