As concerned members of the San Diego community, we are deeply affected by the recent decision made by San Diego Unified School District's school board to lay off teachers. Two educators at Roosevelt International Middle School, who have significantly contributed to our children's education, are among those impacted.

The layoffs were issued on March 5th as a purported solution to budget issues. However, we believe that sacrificing our children's education and future is not an effective or ethical way to address financial problems. In fact, studies show that teacher layoffs can lead to increased class sizes and decreased student performance (National Education Association).

San Diego Unified School District serves over 121,000 students across 226 schools (Ed-Data). The decision to lay off teachers will inevitably affect these students' quality of education and overall learning experience. We urge the school board to reconsider their decision and explore other avenues for budget adjustments that do not compromise our children's education.
