Dear Supporters, a big week on and off the field, so to speak. Thanks to you, our online numbers are 5385 and keep growing. There are more updates at https://www.facebook.com/groups/cycleramp If you are on Facebook, it’d add even more to our message if you would join the page too.
As you may know, there is a state election in NSW on Sat 25th Mar. One of our petitioners asked me: “have any of the candidates in our electorate (North Shore) said that they will support or oppose, either the linear or community proposed cycle ramp if they are elected?”
I answered “at the community forum last week, we had 6 out of 7 candidates present. They were asked about the bike ramp controversy, what would they do and did they support the community solution? The answers varied. Only James Mullen from the Greens said he supported the TfNSW linear ramp. Victoria Walker said she supported the community solution, but thought it a done deal. Disappointing. One said it wasn’t needed. Others promised to look into it after the election. So, all I can say is, number every square on the ballot paper (at least for the legislative Assembly!).
There is some way to go and we have not given up on our vision. We need to work on:
· will the NSW Heritage Council fall in with TfNSW or will it act to safeguard an area of state heritage significance? Will the Commonwealth Environment Minister step in?
These Heritage issues could take some time to work through, needlessly delaying a ramp. The Community solution would be able to start sooner. Today’s picture shows another cyclist supporting the Community solution.
Best wishes, Ian
