Give our shelter pets a chance at life! Hire a qualified director with no-kill initiative experience and fund the No Kill Resolution that our County Commissioners unanimously passed in 2012.
The Issue
On any given day at Broward County Animal Care, there are countless adoptable pets whose lives are at stake. Too many do not make it out of there alive! This should NOT be the case. So why is this happening?
- HIRING UNQUALIFIED LEADERSHIP! While recently filling the Director’s position at Animal Care, the county chose to appoint a long time county employee whose previous experience was in the Code Compliance Division and the Permitting, Licensing, and the Consumer Protection Division. When instead this crucial management position should have had an OPEN APPLICATION process and been extensively marketed to entice qualified, experienced applicants from across the country. Animal’s lives are at stake, so we want the BEST possible candidate running the shelter to give these pets their highest possible chance of survival. That is NOT what we got!
- WHERE IS THE “PLAN’?! OVER 3 years ago, our County Commissioners promised its residents that Animal Services Management would develop a “strategic plan to implement lifesaving programs and services at the Broward County Animal Care.” Still, 3 years later, there is NO “plan” and our innocent pets are still being killed in alarming numbers!
- REFUSING TO FUND THEIR RESOLUTION! Repeated requests to our County Commissioners (the SAME ones who passed this resolution) for funds to implement lifesaving programs, are continually denied!
- MISMANAGEMENT LEADING TO MORE DEATHS! Broward County’s entire No Kill initiative has a built-in funding source, but due to poor and ineffective management this money goes uncollected, and innocent pets are paying with their lives! The county mandated tag program, if run effectively, would fund this No Kill initiative. So pets are literally being killed because our animal care management is not doing their job properly.
We DEMAND, and our PETS DESERVE, that the current Animal Care management be replaced by candidates that have previous EXPERIENCE in animal sheltering AND in operating a successful No Kill Initiative. A qualified management team optimizes the chances of survival for our innocent pets, and that is NOT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR!
We can save them ALL...with your help, so please support our efforts to save our shelter pets by signing AND sharing this petition.
