The Issue

"WE'RE ALL MAD" - The Mad Hatter (Alice in Wonderland)

We are the concerned and frustrated parents of Stonegate students. Our families deeply values the arts in education. Like many parents, we have seen the heartwarming impact that our school play has on our children. Kids who have eagerly anticipated the moment they could shine on stage and learn invaluable skills such as teamwork, creativity, and confidence. Unfortunately, when asked for transparency in the face of paused rehearsals, payroll issues, Stonegate administration and WUSD have shifted over to replacing our beloved VAPA teacher, Ms. Vlasak, as the director, instead of working with families to restore the play and all related rehearsal activities in order to meet our production timelines. The Cheshire cat said is best, "[t]hreats, promises and good intentions don't amount to action."

WE DEMAND ACTION!

Ms. Vlasak has been a beacon of inspiration and guidance, nurturing our children's talents and fostering an environment where the arts thrive. Under her dedicated direction, students have not only excelled in performing arts but have also developed a deeper appreciation for culture and expression. By removing Ms. Vlasak from her role, we risk losing the unique spirit and quality that she brings to our school’s arts programming.

The arts are an essential part of comprehensive education, equipping our children with skills that are crucial for their personal and academic growth. According to various educational studies, students involved in the arts are more likely to succeed in school, score higher on standardized tests, and be more involved in their communities. Implementing this decision could negatively impact our children’s educational experience and rob them of these significant advantages.

Therefore, we are calling upon our school administrators and decision-makers to reconsider and restore the school play with Ms. Vlasak leading the production. This solution will ensure continuity for current students and secure the future involvement of the arts within our educational curriculum. The restoration of our school play signifies not just the preservation of an emerging tradition, but a statement that our community values the comprehensive growth of our students.

We are taking a stand to uplift the for the arts in our school and insuring that all our students have the opportunity to benefit from Ms. Vlasak’s expertise, whether they are in the play or not. Sign this petition to show your support for reinstating our school play as it was intended and maintaining Ms. Vlasak’s invaluable role in our children’s artistic education.
